Fully glazed, self-supporting stairs

seele was awarded with the ‘Innovation Award Architecture and Glass’ at the glasstec 2006 on the 25th October for the world’s largest fully glazed, self-supporting stairs. In doing so, the expert jury has prized entirely new dimensions: for the very first time, complex and structurally complicated drillings in the glass stringers have not been necessary. The components are solely joined together via laminated bonded fittings. This creates a fascinating, seemingly almost weightless design. By employing the new SentryGlas Plus® film combined with a laminating technology specially developed by seele, it was possible to present an exhibit at the glasstec with an impressive length of 8.5 m.

With such design highlights Seele has already set new benchmarks worldwide – for example, in the new Apple High Profile Stores in England, Japan and the USA, where the spectacular Apple Cube on New York’s 5th Avenue has just recently celebrated its opening – one of seele’s many projects.

Laminated Glass Columns – Shape changing with new span widths

With their innovative manufacturing methods, seele has set large scale new technical limits in the glass manufacturing industry. A new generation of laminated glass columns was shown at the glasstec 2006: Notably larger spans of 6 to 9 metres – stretching over two or three floors – are just as feasible as numerous high-quality design details and new shapes. Special coatings on the inside or even interior illumination is viable; The glass panes can be planar or curved. The laminated glass columns serve as structurally supporting hollow profiles. Together with a sophisticated connection system, new exciting façades emerge with a remarkable added value.
